Brief History of Delta Society AustraliaThe Delta Foundation was established in Portland, Oregon, USA in 1977 under the leadership of Michael McCulloch, MD. Delta's first president was Leo K. Bustad, DVM, PhD dean of a veterinary college and a pioneer in human-animal bond theory and application. As founders, they wanted to understand the quality of the relationship between pet owners, pets and care givers, both human and veterinary. Hence, the name "delta" - based on the triangle of inter-relationships. Delta's early years focused on funding the first credible research on why animals are important to the general population and specifically how they affect health and wellbeing. (For further information on the history of Delta Society Australia please visit: www.deltasocietyaustralia.com.au). Delta Society Australia initiated the Delta Dog Safe™ Program after reviewing the horrific statistics of childhood injury and realised that there was an important link in the education of children and dogs which was missing. And this is teaching young children to recognise the first signs of a dog's body language. For further information visit the Delta Society Australia Website. |
